Unable to download & customer service is seemingly non-existent Sep 07, 2010 My daughter was looking forward to utilizing Anime Studio as she writes story lines in the Anime genre & is wanting to try to build physical characters & backgrounds to go with her ideas of building an online story board. When I told her I had ordered this Anime Studio product she was over the top excited & drove me crazy while waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Maybe there is something missing from my laptops & PCs as I am unable to get this to work. It seems, as with other reviewers, the first issue was the product key But as some of the other reviewers state, I too have encountered nothing but frustration when trying to install or activate this software. I have explored all avenues to figure out the issue of why I am unable to get this work on any of my computers & after having several of my tech friends, several of whom design software & computer games.
Adding to the frustration with this product was having to deal with Smith Micro customer service, or rather the lack of even the most basic tier of customer service. Basically, the Customer Support Reps come of as having very minimal customer service skills. In hindsight, I think AOL had better CSRs! I am understanding to the fact that things can go wrong with a product & I have worked in customer service & even when I thought differently I lived by the rule that the customer is always right.
It may become a nice coaster.
Overall, I would not recommend this product. I feel I let my daughter down as she is still trying to get a product that she can create anime stories with.
Like Flash, but cheaper and geared towards animation Jul 04, 2010 Well, this program is very similar to Flash, but it is geared specifically towards making 2d animation and has a number of tools to help streamline the process. Does it have a learning curve, like Flash? Yes. Would I choose this over Flash? If I was just going to animate and did not need anything else, sure. The price sure is right.
hard to set up for a kid May 04, 2010 Struggling to get it off of testing mode. Only able to e-mail for help. Not working for people who are not computer savvy. When we figure it out, maybe it will work.
Good product, but have a reason for it... Apr 22, 2010 I can't even begin to make a review as comprehensive and awesome as Nathan Anderson has done (video and all), so I'll stick to why I picked the program and who I think it would benefit.
I selected this program because it looked fun and cool, and I thought it would be a good way to spend time instead of watching tv. Unfortunately, I was hoping for something with the satisfaction of a game, and this isn't it. This is totally my bad, and not the fault of the software. Like many visual manipulation programs (Photoshop, Corel, et al), you really should have a purpose or need, because the learning curve is going to be steep. It's the nature of such programs. It is easy to get started and make extremely simple animations, but that isn't fulfilling for very long. More sophisticated animations require way more effort than I was willing to invest. Look at all the work for Nathan's minute and a half clip. However, no program is going to make you an decent animator without that effort, no matter how well designed. Tutorials are helpful, but require the user be invested in making it work.
So, I'd recommend this program for parents of children (even very young children) and young adults who want to get into visual graphics, or develop their artistic side. It's relatively inexpensive compared to other options - about the same price as some of those new Transformer action figures! I'd also recommend it as a surprise gift for a rabid anime fan, or someone with their own amateur website looking to spice it up. It is worthwhile, just not for me.
Affordable animation program is good intro Apr 15, 2010 Using this on a Mac, we have had some fun very quickly with a program that takes no time to get started. It's not been used to create any outstanding animations, but so far, for simple visuals, it's been satisfactory. Students who are interested in creating animations are able to be rewarded very quickly and at the cost of a movie for two, it's very cost efficient and provides longer than a couple hours of entertainment. I suggest going for this one!
